Overview

The actuarial intern should be an undergraduate or graduate student and will support the actuarial team in analyzing data to help guide pricing and reserving decisions. Under the guidance of members of the actuarial team, the intern will assist with preparing analyses, developing a data catalog and supporting various projects completed by the actuarial team. The role provides exposure to general insurance and basic actuarial and data principles.

Roles, Responsibilities, and Priorities

Major Areas of accountability

  • General

Develop an understanding of LWCC's data and data access procedures

  • Compile, validate and analyze insurance data
  • Support data governance initiatives
  • Calculate pricing indications and / or reserves
  • Perform mathematical calculations necessary to produce actuarial exhibits
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with other departments
  • Gain an understanding of basic insurance and actuarial concepts
  • Increasing knowledge of LWCC and the insurance industry
  • Confers with team members to discuss work processes, plans, and / or tasks to be performed. Presents problems as they are identified and participate in their resolution
  • Prepare reports / presentations / emails that summarize findings for others
  • Performs other related duties of a comparable level / type as required

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in math, actuarial science, statistics, data analytics or a related quantitative field
  • Progress toward actuarial exams is preferred but not required
  • Skill Requirements

    • Proficiency in Microsoft products, particularly Excel

  • Experience with programming tools such as SQL, R, or Python is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
