About The Position

Experience : Minimum of 2 years of surgical unit experience.

License : Active nursing license required.

Certifications : BLS, ACLS, NIH preferred.

Must-Have :

• Interpretation of dysrhythmias.
• Management of dysrhythmias.
• Use of Rapid Response Teams.
• Blood Product Administration.
• Central line care / management.
• Peripheral line care / management.
• Surgical drains.
• Nasal cannula.
• Non-invasive airway management.
• Isolation precautions.
• Wound care / wound vac management.

Description :

RTO after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite.

Any call-offs or additional RTO could possibly lead to a cancelation and DNR.

The unit handles a wide range of patient diagnoses that have had or plan to have surgery or are involved in trauma, including cellulitis, appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, motor vehicle accidents, and more.

Special procedures performed include cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, TURP, ostomy creation or closure, wound debridement, tumor removal, kidney stone removal, amputations, and fem-pop bypass.

The unit utilizes a variety of special equipment such as wound vacs, chest tubes, NG tubes, JP drains, hemovac drains, and Penrose drains.

The expected patient ratios are 1 : 6 for surgical and medicine inpatient patients.

The facility operates with an interdisciplinary support team.

Candidates must have a teamwork approach and meet behavioral expectations in all interactions with patients and staff.

Candidates must be comfortable floating to other units based on skill sets and census, with no restrictions or special requests required.

Candidates are expected to work every other weekend.

Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.

No RTO is allowed during the first week of a traveler’s assignment due to orientation.

Failure to comply with the call-off policy will be strongly enforced.

Candidates will have to pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty.

Travel pairs are allowed but must work on different units.

References from two managers or supervisors from within the past 12 months are preferred.

Modules and continuing education requirements must be completed pre-start and annually.

Candidates must adhere to a fatigue policy, which restricts working more than 5 consecutive days or more than 60 hours in a week.
