Overview
The
Document Accessibility Remediation Specialist will identify and remediate accessibility issues in
Microsoft Word (.docx) and
PDF documents, including
fillable court forms, to ensure full compliance with
WCAG 2.1 AA,
Section 508, and
ADA standards. This role requires extensive experience with
tagging structure, alt text, reading order, tables, form fields, headings, and screen reader validation. The consultant will work independently and manage a large document workload, ensuring timely and compliant remediation.
Key Responsibilities • Review, audit, test, and remediate
Word and PDF documents for
WCAG 2.1 AA compliance
• Correct and validate
styles, headings, reading/navigation order, lists, links, tables, alt text, and form fields • Apply correct
PDF tagging, logical structure, forms, and labeling for screen reader access
• Ensure compatibility across assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack
• Maintain accurate remediation tracking for assigned documents/forms
• Collaborate with legal, content, and UX teams to ensure consistency and compliance
• Ensure remediated documents pass automated and manual accessibility testing
• Research evolving accessibility regulations and assist in policy interpretation
• Provide guidance and knowledge transfer to internal staff on accessible document creation
• Maintain confidential and sensitive information in compliance with judicial standards
Required Skills & Experience •
7–12 years of hands-on
document accessibility testing & remediation •
3+ years WCAG 2.1 AA remediation in
Microsoft Word (styles, headings, reading order, alt text)
•
3+ years WCAG 2.1 AA remediation in
PDF (tagging, logical structure, links, forms)
•
3+ years working with
accessibility testing tools such as:
JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, PAC, Acrobat Accessibility Checker, CommonLook, axe, WAVE, etc.
• Strong knowledge of
WCAG 2.1 AA, Section 508, ADA, WCAG2ICT standards
• Ability to research laws and interpret complex regulations
• Excellent written and verbal communication, documentation, and reporting skills
• Proven ability to work independently and manage large remediation volumes
• Ability to train and guide teams on creating compliant documents
• Proficient in accessibility & compliance technology platforms
Preferred Skills • Experience with
court forms, legal documents, or judicial orders • UX compliance / user-centered design for accessible content
• Familiarity with remediation workflows in large-scale government environments
Preferred Certifications (Certifications not required but strongly preferred)
