The Heavy Equipment Operator is a vital position reporting to the Terminal Operations Manager or the Shredder Operations Manager. This role requires skilled operation of hydraulic and cable equipment to safely lift and transport materials, machinery, and products. Adhering to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards is crucial in this position. Knowledge of machinery, tools, their design, usage, maintenance, and repair is essential.

Operational Performance & Best Business Practices
Utilize levers, pedals, and dials to operate cranes or other equipment for lifting and moving loads.Assess load weights and verify against lifting capabilities to prevent overloading.Load and unload materials from trucks or containers using moving equipment.Identify and take precautionary measures against potential hazards or obstructions, including other equipment and personnel.Align machinery according to reference points and signals from team members.Collaborate with crew members to coordinate the actions of the machine with other activities.Equipment & Maintenance
Regularly inspect cranes and lifting accessories, reporting any malfunctions or deficiencies to supervisors.Assist in basic sorting of scrap and manage metal and debris for processing.Internal Control Responsibilities
Engage with the Company's Internal Control process, ensuring compliance and communication of any issues.Report operational problems, code of conduct violations, or other illegal actions.This position is often exposed to varied weather conditions and physical hazards associated with scrap yard operations. Safety gear, such as protective footwear, hearing protection, respirators, and face shields, is mandatory.Expect to handle multiple safety and maintenance tasks under pressure. Workload may be unpredictable, especially during peak periods, which may require extra hours on weekends, weekdays, or holidays.Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions
Must be able to : sit for prolonged periods in the crane cabin, often at heights of up to 60 feet; walk occasionally to and from work areas; lift and carry up to 50 pounds on rare occasions; crouch or bend to inspect the crane; reach and manipulate levers frequently; twist and turn regularly; and communicate effectively with team members.High School diploma or GED Certification is required.Experience with various types of cranes is preferred.A valid driver's license and the capability to drive an automobile are necessary.Please note that the above description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties associated with this role.
