The University of Miami UHealth Department of Surgical Services has an exciting opportunity for a full time Surgical Technician 1 at Sylvester Cancer Center in Miami. The incumbent assists the surgical team during operative procedures by arranging and inventorying a sterile set-up for operations and passing items to doctors and nurses. The incumbent also assists in preparing and moving patients and in cleaning the operating room areas.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

• Secures and prepares all supplies required for surgical intervention.

• Ensures the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in the operating room.

• Performs instrument counts prior to each procedure.

• Prepares patient skin for surgical treatment.

• Positions and re-positions patient during surgery.

• Helps monitor patient during surgery.

• Provides supportive care during the pre-operative phase.

• Performs scrub functions.

• Collects and labels specimens taken during surgical procedures.

• Follows all federal, state, and local rules and regulations.

• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

Certification and Licensing:

Certification in relevant specialty or field

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

• Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

• Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

• Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
