Job Title: Shop Foreman – Aerospace Grinding
Rate of Pay: $33-35/hr

Job Summary:
The Shop Foreman for Aerospace Grinding oversees daily operations in the grinding department, ensuring efficient production, adherence to aerospace quality standards, and a safe working environment. This role involves supervising machinists and technicians, coordinating workflows, and maintaining equipment to meet the high precision and performance demands of the aerospace industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Supervision- Manage and supervise grinding shop personnel, including machinists, setup operators, and technicians.
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure the timely completion of projects.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide training, and foster team development.
- Maintain clear communication between the shop floor and management.
- Must have experience with quoting customer jobs, preferable in the grinding business.
Operations Management- Plan and schedule grinding operations to ensure optimal use of resources and meet delivery deadlines.
- Oversee setup, operation, and maintenance of grinding machines, ensuring precision and compliance with aerospace standards.
- Monitor shop activities to maintain high levels of productivity and quality.
- Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
Quality Assurance- Ensure all grinding work adheres to aerospace industry standards, including AS9100 and NADCAP requirements.
- Conduct inspections of finished components, verifying tolerances and surface finishes.
- Address quality issues promptly and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with quality control teams to maintain audit readiness.
Maintenance & Safety- Ensure all grinding equipment is regularly maintained and in optimal working condition.
- Enforce compliance with safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and company policies.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Inventory & Tooling- Monitor inventory of grinding wheels, abrasives, and related consumables.
- Order necessary supplies to prevent downtime and maintain production flow.
- Track tooling usage and ensure availability of specialized tools for aerospace projects.
Customer & Supplier Relations- Work with customers to understand project specifications and provide updates on progress.
- Liaise with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and tools.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve technical challenges.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience- High school diploma or equivalent (required); technical degree or certification in machining, grinding, or manufacturing (preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in precision grinding, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing, including familiarity with tight tolerances and industry-specific standards.
Skills & Competencies- Proficient in operating and troubleshooting grinding machines, including cylindrical, surface, and centerless grinders.
- Deep understanding of aerospace materials, including titanium, aluminum, and high-temperature alloys.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and blueprint reading.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Prolonged standing, bending, and operating heavy machinery.
- Tolerance for working in noisy environments with proper PPE.
