Senior Backend Developer

Summit Technologies, Inc. is looking for a Senior Backend Developer, to support our client in Washington, DC (Hybrid / Remote). This role supports the IRS Business Tax Account (BTA) modernization initiative as part of the Taxpayer Experience (TXE) Strategy. The Senior Back-End Developer will focus on building secure, scalable, and high-performing server-side applications and APIs within an AWS / Kubernetes federal environment. Candidates must be eligible for a Public Trust (MBI) clearance. Employment is contingent upon passing the required background investigation and maintaining eligibility throughout the period of performance.

Duties and Responsibilities :

• Lead the design and development of secure back-end services, RESTful APIs, and microservices that integrate with IRS digital platforms.
• Implement best practices for cloud-native applications in AWS and Kubernetes, ensuring compliance with IRS Publ. 4812, FISMA, and NIST 800-53.
• Collaborate with product owners, technical leads, and stakeholders to translate user stories into functional back-end features.
• Support CI / CD processes using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, SonarQube, and automated testing frameworks.
• Conduct unit and integration testing and help develop automated test coverage (90%+ for critical functionality).
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, including root cause analysis and long-term fixes.
• Contribute to performance tuning, scalability testing, and capacity planning to meet IRS performance standards.
