As part of the ASCEND Inititiative teaching fellowships support collaborative teaching engagements between a faculty member at an HBCU partner institutionand a Yale faculty member. Collaborations across teaching styles and formats are encouraged. Interdisciplinary collaborations are welcome. Example collaborations include two faculty members teaching interrelated courses during the same term at their own campuses and bringing their students together in virtual conversation to work on joint projects and to meet in person through joint field trips as part of the work for the term.
Timeline
Spring 2027 semester proposals will be accepted beginning May 1 2026. Proposals are due August 1 2026. Awards will be announced September 1 2026.

Expectations for Proposals
The faculty and students are expected to collaborate in innovative interactive and compelling ways. The courses are expected to be taught separately but to interconnect in meaningful ways. The course subjects are not expected to be identical but should interconnect in ways that inspire students to be excited about the topics of both courses and about what they can learn from each other.
