Job Summary: Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is a fully integrated medical campus that includes diagnostic centers, outpatient surgery and a 24-hour emergency department located in the state-of-the-art hospital. Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is part of the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, a nonprofit, multispecialty, academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education. The Department of Hematology & Medical Oncology is comprised of physicians, nurses, researchers, advanced practice providers (APP) and other healthcare professionals specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cancers or disorders of the blood. By joining the Medical Oncology team as a Medical Assistant, you will collaborate with fellow staff to create a welcoming, comfortable environment for patients, families and visitors. You will assist with medication management, patient monitoring, administrative tasks and more. All your work helps ensure the best possible health outcomes. A caregiver in this position works Monday-Friday from 8:00AM 5:00PM. A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Assist with performing screening and treatments by gathering information related to health maintenance, collecting specimens and documenting patient care.
- Update health maintenance at patient visits, accurately identify medication changes and update allergy information at each visit.
- Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition.
- Administer specific medications under the direction of the provider.
- Maintain equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning and troubleshooting.
- Maintain examination areas.
- Assist in pre-visit planning by updating the health maintenance tab.
- Perform administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry and patient registration.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Graduate from an accredited Medical Assisting Program
- Military training as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered
- Current demonstrated clinical proficiency
- Completion of a clinical externship OR extensive clinical experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required within new hire period
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- CMA, NCMA or CCMA certification
- Successful completion of a CC Externship
Physical Requirements: Manual dexterity to operate office equipment. May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting. Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision. Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
