The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today : space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

Design & Development

Lead development of structural and mechanical subsystems throughout the entire design cycle including conceptual and detailed design trade studies structural analysis development testing and qualification

Generate 3-D models component drawings assembly drawings and interface control documents

Create documentation for assembly and testing of development and flight hardware

Participate in subsystem level testing including planning execution data reduction and analysis

Manufacturing & Production

Develop component specifications and manage suppliers

Coordinate and oversee manufacturing and production activities

Facilitate the development and purchase of new equipment and tooling

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce world class aerospace hardware

Technical Leadership

Lead design reviews and technical gate reviews

Mentor junior engineers in structural design principles and best practices

Develop innovative solutions to complex structural challenges

Ensure designs meet all requirements for performance safety and reliability

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering

Minimum of 7 years of experience in design & development of large aerospace structures

Knowledge in material selection compatibility and manufacturing techniques

Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3D CAD software

Comprehension of classical stress analysis methods

Familiar with application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and variation analysis

Experience leading a team of engineers

Proven track-record of managing projects to meet schedule budget and technical performance metrics

Preferred Qualifications :

Ability to apply structural mechanics principles and develop designs using hand calculations and finite element analysis

Proficiency in Creo (Pro / E) Wildfire 5 or greater Windchill 10

Expertise with analysis codes : Nastran ANSYS Optistruct LS / Dyna Abaqus

Knowledgeable in metallic and composite design and analysis considerations

Experience with rapid development techniques for hardware

Familiarity with systems engineering practices manufacturing fabrication and assembly processes and quality control

Experience with Optimization and DOE methods as applied to design analysis and testing

Experienced with fabrication of composite primary structures for aerospace

Experience working in a cross-functional team responsible for selecting materials manufacturing processes and developing the design to produce world-class engineered products

Proven experience developing manufacturing processes for transition to production

CA applicants is $140959.00-$197342.25;CO applicants is $129611.00-$181454.70;WA applicants is $140959.00-$197342.25
