ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is seeking a skilled Technical Writer for a contract-to-hire position in Birmingham, AL. In this role, you will be responsible for transforming complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation that supports product adoption and enhances user experience. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and support teams to develop and maintain a variety of technical documents, including user guides, release notes, API references, and process documentation. The Technical Writer will play a key role in standardizing documentation structure and terminology, managing version control, and overseeing the documentation lifecycle using established tools and workflows. This position requires a strong understanding of software development or engineering processes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally to ensure content accuracy and consistency.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Develop and maintain technical documentation, including user guides, release notes, API references, and process documentation.

Translate complex technical concepts into accessible, accurate content for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and support teams, as well as subject matter experts, to gather information and ensure content accuracy.

Standardize documentation structure, style, and terminology across products and platforms to ensure consistency and clarity.

Edit, proofread, and review content for clarity, consistency, and quality, ensuring all documentation meets established standards.

Manage version control and the documentation lifecycle through established tools and workflows.

WHAT YOU BRING

3–7 years of experience in technical writing or a related field.

Strong understanding of software development concepts, technical systems, or engineering processes.

Proficiency with documentation tools such as Confluence, Markdown, Git, MadCap Flare, or similar platforms.

Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.

Experience working in Agile environments is a plus.
