Major Gifts Program Manager
The Major Gifts Program Manager is responsible for cultivating and stewarding an active portfolio of 75-125 prospective and current donors through best practice development techniques in order to secure philanthropic support to meet annual revenue goals. The role oversees and executes a broad development strategy for a major strategic service line of Piedmont Healthcare, such as Cardiovascular, Oncology, Transplant, Neurosciences, etc. The manager develops and implements measurable activities to accomplish development goals including individual donor cultivation and asks as well as foundation grant requests. They establish and maintain effective relationships within Piedmont Healthcare and maintain knowledge of current events, healthcare trends, and fundraising trends within the Piedmont system and healthcare in general.
Key responsibilities include developing an active portfolio of prospective major donors and soliciting contributions, achieving agreed upon benchmark targets and closures. The manager also establishes measurable activities with the donor portfolio to accomplish development goals that support long-term support to the hospital. They manage grant requests and corporate proposals, work closely with other Foundation staff, the healthcare foundation board / volunteers, administrative leadership, medical staff leadership, volunteers, and others to execute campaigns, and maintain current knowledge of nonprofit philanthropy trends, development best practices, healthcare trends, and relevant current events.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to converse confidently with volunteer leaders, donors, administration, and prospects in both social and business surroundings, and the ability to work with senior executives, physicians, hospital staff, volunteers, Auxilians, and key volunteers from the community and corporations. Leadership skills, initiative, and good judgment to make sound decisions are also necessary, along with being versed in computer and Internet communications.
Qualifications include a Bachelors degree from a recognized college or university in communications, marketing, development, business, or a closely related field, and five (5) years of responsible professional work experience in development, marketing, communications, or a closely related field, with three (3) of the five (5) years involving development-related activities. Experience with a donor database system is also required.
