SPED Coordinator

Qualifications

Master's degree or above. Valid Alabama certification in administration or supervision. Minimum of five years successful experience as a teacher, preferably in Special Education. Administrative or supervisory experience required. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable to assist in administering the Special Education Program of the schools.

Performance Qualifications

1. Act as the primary decision-maker for the special education department in the absence of the Special Education Coordinator.
2. Coordinate the referral, evaluation and placement of students referred for special education services.
3. Serve as liaison between BBSST and special education processes.
4. Serve as a resource person to general education teachers who work in an inclusion setting.
5. Provide consultation and assistance to local schools to solve problems related to special education as directed.
6. Provide in-service training and workshops for local school personnel on topics relating to pre-referral interventions and Special Education.
7. Provide input to local schools regarding placement and scheduling.
8. Act as a liaison between the local school and Special Education Coordinator.
9. Assist in employee evaluations as directed.
10. Keep informed about current trends and practices in the area of Special Education and disseminate such information.
11. Ensure that sound teaching methods and procedures are used in achieving the education
12. Observe, consult, and assist individual classroom teachers in instruction and classroom performance.
13. Assist in recruiting and interviewing Special Education teachers.
14. Encourage the use of resources available to help achieve goals.
15. Maintain all records and files in accordance with procedures established by the Special Education Department.
16. Monitor faculty training provided by special education teachers in SSC.
17. Maintain confidentiality of Board of Education business.
18. Be regular and punctual in attendance.

Special Note: For employees starting work after the beginning date of the work term, the salary will be prorated and based on the number of contract days left in the school year, divided by the remaining months in the contract year.

Starting Salary: $70,000.00
