Title : International Diversity Equity & Inclusion Associate Director

General Summary of Position

The International Diversity & Inclusion Associate Director supports the implementation of global DEI strategies with a particular focus on international programs. The role collaborates with the Director of Global Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DGDEI) to develop policies, training programs, and data analysis frameworks for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within AFSC's global operations.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Strategic Plan Implementation

  • In collaboration with DGDEI develop strategies, goals, and approaches for international programs, ensuring alignment with AFSC's global strategic plan.
  • Address issues including colonialism, imperialism, tribal identity and ethnicity, religious tolerance, and gender discrimination.

Training & Capacity Building

  • Design and implement internationally focused DEI training for staff, managers, and governance.
  • Provide support for context-specific DEI training needs across various regional teams.
  • Governance & Compliance

  • Provide updates and advice as requested by the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the International Programs Staff Council.
  • Ensure compliance with international diversity laws and regulatory frameworks.
  • Affinity Groups & Employee Engagement

  • Support the development of employee affinity groups, ensuring equitable representation and resources.
  • DEI Communications & Language Justice

  • Ensures the Global DEI Service Center in Star Caf is regularly updated and provides accessible resources to all staff in appropriate languages.
  • Assist in producing the monthly global DEI newsletter, sharing key updates, initiatives, and upcoming DEI events.
  • Collaborate with and assist the Language Justice Working Group (LJWG) in advancing language accessibility and inclusion efforts.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Track and analyze global DEI progress through data collection and reporting.
  • Supports Director of HR in finalizing annual HR / DEI report to the board
  • Provide updates to the Committee on Equity, Justice, and Belonging in Governance (CEJBC) and the International Programs Staff Council.
  • Tracks multi-year Global Diversity progress and other data for staff and governance.
  • Policy Development & Conflict Resolution

  • Work with the Director of Global DEI to introduce and revise international DEI policies.
  • Serve as a resource for conflict resolution in international teams.
  • Budget & Financial Oversight

  • Assist the DGDI in managing DEI budget planning and SPIF fund allocations.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Operates safely in all conditions and follows policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Supervisory / Management Requirements

    No direct supervisory responsibilities.

    Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Education : Bachelor's degree or higher required. DEI certification preferred.
  • Experience : Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a nonprofit or international NGO with a focus on organizational development.
  • Lived experience outside of the U.S. required.
  • Strong understanding of global DEI issues, including colonial and imperial histories.
  • Knowledge of historical and current international issues such as the legacy of colonialism and imperialism, tribal identity and ethnicity, religious tolerance, and gender discrimination. Understanding of current country laws related to LGBTQ.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in multilingual environments.
  • Experience in data collection and analysis related to DEI.
  • Ability to work effectively across different time zones and cultural landscapes.
  • Experience in change management and organizational transformation
  • Proficiency in at least one additional language is preferred.
  • Ability to work in the evenings and / or weekends and to travel, as required.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment.
  • Experience with standard Microsoft Office and related technology.
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles, concerns, and considerations, of AFSC in regard to issues of race, class, nationality, religion, age, gender and sexual orientation, and disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff.
  • Commitment to Quaker values and testimonies. Understanding of and compatibility with the principles and philosophy of the American Friends Service Committee including non-violence and the belief in the intrinsic worth of every individual.
  • Respect for and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, racial, gender and religious diversity and familiarity with non-violent approaches to problem solving.
  • Ability to organize, plan ahead and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles, concerns, and considerations of AFSC in regard to issues of race, class, nationality, religion, age, gender and sexual orientation, and disabilities.

    Compensation

    The AFSC offers a competitive Total Rewards package. This position is Salary Family : International Program Job Code Associate Director, Minimum Starting Salary $90,000 - $120,000. Comprehensive medical and hospitalization plan; term life, STD & LTD, plus other benefits including vacation, PTO, sabbaticals, extended leaves, holidays, participation in country specific programs.
