Job Summary

A Splicing Apprentice works with direct supervision and guidance from a Senior Level Splicer. Duties include splicing testing and troubleshooting fiber optic cable. Individuals classified as Entry Level are typically those that are new to the telecommunications field. Individuals in this classification typically hold no certifications but are willing and able to accept direction guidance and critique from individuals in advanced classifications. Entry Level Splicers will be tasked with learning to read prints and understand the fiber optic color code to splice and test fiber cable in a variety of environments (underground aerial).

Must be willing to travel out of state and work a 21 on and 10 off rotational schedule.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean neat professional appearance.
• Help load and unload daily supplies and equipment on to and off of company vehicles.
• Possess the desire and ability to work with hand tools and perform a wide variety of hands-on tasks related to the fiber optic network.
• Knowledgeable on the proper use of basic hand tools.
• Ability to act in a professional and courteous manner on all matters involving the customer.
• Maintain a professional working attitude with co-workers and customers at all times and adhere to safety practices and procedures.
• Ability to complete the tasks assigned in a timely manner.
• Use proper care on all company assets to avoid breakage misuse theft etc.
• Complete and submit basic paperwork (timecards material forms etc.) according to company policies and procedures.
• Understands adheres to and promotes the Environmental Health & Safety policies of AFL Telecom.
• Attend classes and training sessions as requested by AFL management to obtain and maintain certifications.
• Other duties as assigned by Manager.
