  • The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    The Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons Office of Development (VP&S OOD), a part of the Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), is dedicated to facilitating relationships that support the vision and mission of CUIMC and VP&S : to transform health by driving discovery, advancing care, and educating leaders.

    Position Summary

    The incumbent will be a member of the fundraising team dedicated to cancer programs at the Herbert Irving Compressive Cancer Center (HICCC), an institutional priority area at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC). The HICCC spans six schools across Columbia University, and 38 departments, bringing together world-class expertise with one goal : to end cancer.

    The incumbent will report to the Senior Director of Development and work closely with the Senior Executive Director of Development on priorities that raise funds to support the research and clinical mission as defined by cancer leadership and key faculty. The incumbent will work with the Senior Director of Development and support the Senior Executive Director of Development on strategic initiatives to steward and cultivate current and prospective donors for Columbia's Cancer programs. They will liaise with faculty and colleagues to help develop collateral to meet the needs of the Cancer Program and will play an integral role in identifying prospects to grow the donor pipeline and maintain a portfolio of prospects capable of making five to six figure gifts in support of cancer research and clinical care.

    In addition, the incumbent will project manage cancer designated fundraising and cultivation events including Velocity, a signature cornerstone Peer2Peer event of CUIMC and the HICCC in its 9th year that raises over $1M annually for cancer research. The incumbent will serve as a key liaison with the outside production firm for Velocity programming logistics, constituent participation and internal CUIMC stakeholders including the coordination of all fundraising and outreach aspects such as promotional materials, communications, and on / off-campus engagement opportunities. They will develop strategies and proposals to recruit corporate sponsors and sponsor teams, and work with faculty, staff, and students to recruit donors and participants.

    Responsibilities

    Manage an effort to leverage the existing grateful patient and annual giving programs to develop a pipeline of future donors for cancer program areas capable of making five to six figure gifts. Develop donor strategies, cultivate relationships, meet with faculty and volunteers as assigned; provide guidance and support to faculty on prospect and donor cultivation; execute donor strategies, prepare solicitations and stewardship of annual and major gifts. - 50%

    Serve as a Development liaison for the Cancer Center's annual signature Peer2Peer fundraising event providing logistics oversight, faculty & participant engagement, and communications management with university communication partners. Work with the Senior Director of Development to implement best practices and standards for the Velocity fundraising program with a strong emphasis on growing participation and retention, maximizing corporate opportunities, existing relationships, and fundraising potential. Monitor the progress of Velocity and develop timelines and strategies to ensure that tasks are completed on time and within budget. - 25%

    Support the Senior Director of Development and Senior Executive Director of Development on Cancer major and principal gift fundraising initiatives including assisting in preparation of proposals, solicitations, stewardship reports, correspondence, and fundraising events as assigned. - 20%

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.
    • Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in annual giving and / or frontline fundraising
    • Experience in non-profit event management and peer-to-peer fundraising experience
    • Experience in recruiting and managing Corporate Partners
    • Experience with Salesforce CRM
    • Other Requirements

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
    • Ability to exercise excellent judgment, tact, confidentiality, and diplomacy in all interactions.
    • Flexibility and willingness to travel minimally and within the tristate.
    • Capacity to handle diverse projects and a large volume of detailed work simultaneously, using good judgment in prioritizing work.
    • Convey a professional and positive image that reflects favorably on the team and institution.
    • Ability to work with fundraising databases and software systems; superior Excel, MS Office skills required.
    • This position requires work beyond regular hours, including evenings and weekends, as projects and events require.
