Structural Designer III

Must be able to work in Tucson, AZ; St Louis, MO; or Duluth, GA

Structural Designer III is responsible to develop Revit models and prepare construction drawings as part of a multidiscipline team in St. Louis, Tucson, and Mumbai offices. Conduct on-site data collection and inspection. Works with team to ensure proper application of company drafting standards. Performs collision detections and modeling. Maintains material takeoff schedules and provides to lead engineer when required. Provides mentoring to less experienced designers. REQUIREMENTS & DUTIES-Builds 3D models for steel and concrete structures, foundations, masonry buildings, process ductwork, concrete silos and bunkers, and steel bins and hoppers. Creates and annotates construction drawings under direction of assigned engineer.-Works on multiple models and projects, concurrently. -Serves as the lead structural designer on projects, when assigned, supervising all structural modeling and drafting work on the project.-Travels to site to collect information needed for design.-In absence of existing drawings, uses laser scans to model existing structure.-Reviews general arrangement drawings, existing structure information, and equipment drawings with engineer to determine initial framing layout. Develops model and creates preliminary structural drawings.-Reviews initial layout and drawings with engineer, discusses pros and cons, and agrees to final framing layout prior to proceeding with drawing completion. -Provides fully dimensioned drawings adequate for shop detailing and field construction.-Prepares all equipment connection details on the drawings, ensuring proper fit, support, bolt hole positions, etc. are provided.-Identifies details not covered by company standard drawings and provides details on the design drawings.-Incorporates into the drawings all steel member sizes, concrete dimensions, rebar requirements, and design forces provided by the engineer.-Communicates with lead engineer regarding the scope and tasks of the project to keep them informed about work status, progress, and design concerns with the models and drawings. -Checks models prepared by other designers to ensure accuracy, completeness, conformance to standards, and coordination with other disciplines' models.-Checks drawings prepared by other designers to ensure accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standards.-Runs Navisworks collision detections.-Works with engineer to resolve any interference or inter-discipline coordination issues.-Provides material takeoff quantities by maintaining schedules in REVIT. Verifies schedules are functioning properly. -Assists in responding to RFI queries from fabricator shop and contractor in the field.-Reviews fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to the design drawings and specifications.-Provides mentoring and guidance to junior designers.

QUALIFICATIONS-Minimum of 10 years of experience with steel and concrete structures for projects in cement, mining, or similar industries.-Associates or Technical Degree in design from accredited institution-Expertise in Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD.-Proficient with Microsoft Office applications-Familiar with applicable codes such as IBC, OSHA, AISC, and ACI.
