Fleet Mechanic

Salary Range: $38 - $40 per hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, OT avaiiable

Location: Portland, OR

Job Summary:

Journeyman level mechanics perform repair work, perform diagnostics, DOT inspections, etc. and mentor entry level mechanics.

Job Responsibilities:

• Identifies complex mechanical problems visually and/or with computer diagnostic equipment.
• Performs tests on specific parts and systems to determine whether they are operating properly.
• Performs routine preventive maintenance (PM) and DOT inspections.
• Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems, such as such brakes, lights, wiring, belts, sensors, and other mechanical parts.
• Maintains heavy equipment that includes hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical machinery.
• Tracks inventory of parts and tools needed for repairs and maintenance.
• Conducts post-repair testing and diagnostics.
• Test drives vehicle to confirm proper operation, that repairs have been made properly, and that problems have been resolved.
• Maintains a clean and safe work area.
• Accurately completes and submits DOT forms and all other associated paperwork as required for tracking PM schedules.
• Completes and submits all other required paperwork on time.
• Must be able to use a computer and smartphone for communication and administrative tasks.
• Follows and complies with all company and federally required policies and procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills/Abilities:

• Welding experience, a plus
• Must be proficient in diagnostics in a full spectrum of vehicles (i.e., service vans, semi-trucks, box trucks, etc.)
• Diesel engine tear-down and rebuild, a plus.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and understand basic electrical/hydraulic schematics.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Must be self-motivated and able to work without supervision.
• Knowledge of workplace safety.
• Proficient with related computer diagnostic equipment and software.
• Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.

Additional Requirements:

• Must have own set of hand tools common to the trade.
• Must have a valid driver license. current CDL a plus!
• Current three-year clean driving history
• Ability to work overtime as needed to complete tasks.
• Exceptional attendance is a must!

Education and Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience as diesel and gas powered heavy, medium, and light duty mechanics and diagnostics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods working on vehicles and equipment.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
• Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
• Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
