Planning & Development Manager
The purpose of this position is to provide short and long-range planning of activities, services, and programs and to manage staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Manages projects and programs by conducting special projects, attending multi-jurisdictional meetings, coordinating workloads, directing and reviewing collection of data, coordinating product and program feasibility studies, and administering voluntary annexation program.
- Supervises staff by prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring adequate staff training and adherence to policies and procedures, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
- Completes and presents case reports to Planning and Zoning Commission by checking project compliance with development ordinances, coordinating technical review with department members, and scheduling projects on monthly agendas.
- Coordinates submission of board action requests by reviewing applications, corresponding with applicants, reviewing items for compliance with general statutes, local codes, and ordinances, coordinating development of presentation, and overseeing the writing and delivery of reports.
- Provides information to the public regarding planning and development processes and procedures.
- Assists with tracking budget and department information, including maintaining balances, researching discrepancies, and preparing financial reports.
- Provides internal departments with advice and recommendations regarding relevant permit issues, ordinance regulations, and environmental consulting.

Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Geography, Architecture / Landscape Architecture or related field from an accredited college or university, with at least five (5) years of relevant and supervisory experience or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
