Position Summary :
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a Data Engineer to join a dynamic Data Science Team. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and software engineering skills, experience with data pipelines, and expertise in relational databases. This role focuses on building and maintaining data systems to support predictive (machine learning / AI) and prescriptive modeling while improving data quality and efficiency. The Data Engineer will collaborate with business stakeholders, BI teams, data scientists, and analysts to enable data-driven decision-making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Analyze, develop, combine, and maintain various raw data sources.
Identify opportunities to improve data quality and optimize data systems and pipelines.
Apply ETL concepts to prepare structured and unstructured data for modeling.
Follow enterprise project lifecycle and support integration and user acceptance testing.
Maintain accountability for assigned work and communicate status to the team.
Collaborate with BI ETL Developers, Data Architects, Data Scientists, Reporting Analysts, and SMEs to understand business goals.
Produce technical documentation adhering to enterprise standards.
Serve as an escalation point for application support and troubleshooting.
Proactively identify issues and opportunities impacting business use of data / reports.
Review outstanding issues daily to ensure timely resolution.
Ensure all changes comply with change management policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field from an accredited college / university (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 1 year of experience in software development, data-centric, or model-centric pipelines.
Proficiency with relational database concepts, ETL processes, and data integration.
Experience with documentation and publication of technical processes.
Strong SQL skills, including query writing, optimization, and performance tuning.
Familiarity with data movement and orchestration on-premises and in cloud environments.
Knowledge of SQL Server, SSIS, Python, Azure, Docker, Git, Visual Studio; Azure platform experience preferred (Data Factory, Web Applications, ML platforms). AWS or GCP experience is a plus.
Understanding of data management processes and data pipelines for predictive and prescriptive modeling.
Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation following enterprise standards.
Strong problem-solving, logic, and analytical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information (HIPAA / PHI compliance).
Initiative, flexibility, attention to detail, and ability to work independently while maintaining team communication.
