Executive Director, Annual Giving
The Executive Director of Annual Giving is responsible for overseeing the Annual Giving Program for the entire University; formulating its short- and long-term plans, goals, and objectives; and integrating efforts to secure annual commitments from all constituencies across a multitude of solicitation vehicles. The Executive Director prioritizes efforts to create and implement proactive strategies to expand the donor base and increase annual support while building a sustainable culture of philanthropy for the University. This role must coordinate fundraising strategies with the frontline fundraising team and the stewardship team.
The Executive Director is responsible for the development and implementation of the comprehensive, data-driven annual giving program for Johns Hopkins University; in that capacity, fosters the institution's broadest channels for raising philanthropic support on an annual basis.
Key Responsibilities :
- Oversee the strategic vision of the Annual Giving Program by planning and implementing a comprehensive Program designed to secure annual commitments from alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students, and friends.
- Work collaboratively with cross campus partners on fundraising initiatives.
- Supervise, evaluate, and collaborate with the member of Leadership Annual Giving to ensure the success of programs, initiatives as well as the ongoing development of all team members.
- Oversee the Annual Giving budget and allocate resources to ensure all goals can be achieved while staying within the budget annually. Additionally, provide an annual budget proposal to request ongoing fund support for new programs and initiatives.
- Develop and implement solicitation strategies to increase donors.
- Manage team members through coaching, guiding, supporting and setting performance and professional development goals. Actively utilize the university's process to evaluate performance and assist employees in reaching their goals.

In addition to the duties described above, the Executive Director will :
Manage the Office of Annual Giving, including direct marketing and digital strategy, data analysis, and OAG-based annual giving managers who partner with the development offices on the university side, totaling nearly 40 units across the organization.Be creative and driven to continued success in an ambitious development and alumni relations program, which aspires to raise $1B in total commitments annually. The Office of Annual Giving is not responsible for the major and principal gifts; however, it is equally as critical to ensuring that donor and gift counts meet the year-to-year aspirations of our faculty, students, and university leadership.Provide strategic guidance and insights to the DAR Leadership Team, informing overall engagement metrics which may expand beyond traditional alumni-based fundraising, and identifying opportunities for donors to give to cause-based appeals and approaches benefitting the organization. This strategic guidance means the Executive Director must be able to identify national trends within the annual giving landscape, while also staying apprised of specific industry trends within higher education, including the use of artificial intelligence and other leading technologies.Be able to drive decision-making with leadership, within Central DAR, within the schools, and with partners across the university and medicine, operating within the complexities of a matrixed organization. This means, at times, partnering with communications, general counsel, advancement services, alumni relations, and other university offices.Demonstrate skills and success in motivating teams of direct reports and managers, while also serving as a collaborative leader within the development and alumni relations organization who is continually committed to their own professional growth and development, as well as that of the team they lead.Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree.12 or more years professional related years of experience, including at least five years of management experience.Additional experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.Preferred Qualifications :
Experience of working in a complex, multi-divisional, results-oriented environment.Familiarity with higher education annual giving and alumni giving participation strategies a plus.Experience in higher education, non-profit organizations, product marketing, business development, or management consulting is a plus.Driver's license and occasional evening / weekend hours required.
