The firm owns and manages a diverse portfolio of office, retail, and industrial properties in Massachusetts. Known for long-term ownership, hands-on management, and entrepreneurial culture, they seek professionals who demonstrate initiative, accountability, and a strong work ethic.

Position Overview

The Commercial Real Estate Accountant will manage the accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of 1520 commercial properties. The role requires technical accounting expertise, strong organizational skills, and the ability to take ownership of deadlines and deliverables. This individual will also help improve efficiencies, mentor junior staff, and liaise with external accountants.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all accounting functions for assigned portfolio (1520 commercial properties).
• Prepare and review CAM reconciliations and ensure accuracy of tenant billings.
• Process and track operating expense recoveries, management fees, penalties, and late fees.
• Maintain accurate financial reporting in Excel and QuickBooks.
• Support external auditors and third-party accounting firms during tax filings.
• Develop and implement process improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
• Mentor/oversee 12 junior accounting staff.
• Partner with property management and ownership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy.
• Proactively identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities to strengthen financial operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA track or CPA preferred).
• Public accounting experience (audit, reviews, attestations) strongly preferred.
• Prior experience with commercial real estate accounting (office, retail, industrial).
• Hands-on knowledge of Excel and QuickBooks required.
• Strong work ethic, punctuality, and willingness to "roll up sleeves."
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines with precision.
• Strong communication skills and ability to liaise with external accountants, auditors, and attorneys.
• Leadership potential ability to mentor junior staff and eventually lead a small team.
