Medical Assistant / Secretary I
Recognizing diversity and inclusion as fundamental to our community and integral to a healthy and successful art and design education, the Medical Assistant / Secretary I performs a variety of clinical and clerical duties in a college health setting and helps foster a welcoming and respectful environment. All clinical activities are done under the direct supervision of a qualified licensed medical professional.
Essential Functions / Duties :
- Serve as the central point of contact in a campus medical office serving a diverse population of students.
- Provide a welcoming environment in person and on the phone to help guide students and visitors to the appropriate party or location of information.
- Schedule appointments based on provider availability and manage flow of patients throughout the work day.
- Check departmental email, answer phones, and direct clinical questions to the appropriate person.
- Scan incoming patient records to the electronic health system.
- Complete routine forms or paperwork in accordance with specific instructions and established procedures.
- Process insurance referrals and connect students with appropriate community resources.
- Support clinicians by interviewing students, obtaining medical histories, obtaining vital signs, reconcile medication, administer screening questionnaires, and maintaining accurate and up to date electronic health records.
- Maintain safe, effective, and clean exam rooms by frequent touch-point surface cleaning, sterilizing and ensuring the availability of instruments as needed, and ordering / restocking medical supplies.
- Collect lab specimens including throat cultures, wound cultures and urine specimens.
- Perform CLIA-waived tests including pregnancy tests, glucose monitoring, and urine dipsticks.
- Provide clinician chaperone for all sensitive / invasive clinical exams and / or when requested by student / patients.
- Assist with minor office procedures under direct clinician supervision.
- Adhere to and maintain strictly enforced confidentiality policy.
- Complete periodic competency testing and trainings

1 year of experience as a medical assistant or as a certified nursing assistant.Demonstrated computer experience and ability to use Word, Excel, and Google Suite.Strong interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to exercise discretion.Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with multiple diverse populations.Union : No
