Horse Care Assistant

Provides care for animals on the farm. Feeds and waters animals, perform basic veterinary care, and cleans stalls, paddocks, and feeding equipment. Assists in preparing grounds for daily activities and guest arrival.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Feeds, waters and cares for animals according to detailed instructions
• Cleans stalls and paddocks, feeding equipment and tack room
• Works closely with volunteers
• Oversees health condition and behavior of animals; reports injuries, disease or abnormal behavior to supervisor and/or designated person
• Moves horses to pastures and stalls as directed
• Administers required medications
• Documents all care and procedures as directed
• Keeps barn and associated areas clean and orderly
• Trailers and hauls horses, as needed
• Prepares, cleans, and sets up outside seating areas, pathways, walkways, gardens for daily programs and guests

COMPETENCIES:

• Highly skilled in working with animals
• Experience administering medications
• Skill in concentrating on routine tasks
• Ability to manage multiple priorities
• Experience trailering horses and hauling a horse trailer
• Can stoop, bend and do manual labor
• Can lift 50-75 pounds
• Can stand and walk for the duration of the scheduled shift

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• One year animal care experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge and skills have been achieved.
• High level of commitment to the care and well-being of all farm animals
• Observant and detail-oriented?
• Remains?focused on routine tasks?
• Ability to work well?and interact?with a diverse group of people
• Must have reliable transportation
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays?
• Must have fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or be eligible to receive within four (4) weeks of hire.?
