Generalist - Blood Bank / Core Lab
Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist I in their role as Testing Personnel as defined by CLIA is responsible for specimen processing test performance and reporting waived and non-waived test results. Under general supervision each individual performs only those tests authorized by the laboratory manager that require a degree of skill commensurate with the individuals education training experience and technical abilities.

Essential Functions
As outlined by CLIA after successful completion of orientation training and competency assessment on all instruments and methods applicable to their role :
Follow the laboratorys procedures for specimen handling and processing test analyses reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
Adhere to the laboratorys quality control policies and document all quality control activities instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
Follow the laboratorys established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratorys established acceptable levels of performance.
Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify the appropriate supervisor consultant or director.
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratorys established performance specifications (42 CFR 493..1495).

Education
Bachelors Degree Clinical Laboratory Sciences required or Bachelors Degree Medical Technology required or Bachelors Degree Laboratory Sciences required
Licenses and Credentials
Medical Technologist (ASCP) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred eligibility required
