Position Summary :

Assume responsibilities for direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician in patient care area. Provides nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the LPN as defined by the Florida Board of Nursing. Work collaboratively with the corporate leadership, medical and clinic administrative staff, and billing personnel, to develop and implement well-balanced clinical programs designed to ensure the operational and strategic success of the clinic.

Responsibilities :

  • Performs general nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Perform routine diagnostic tests, medical treatments and procedures such as taking and recording temperatures, pulse, respiration and blood pressure; changing sterile dressings, giving irrigations and enemas; EKGs, preparing patient and collecting specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Administering medication as directed by the physician.
  • Performs collection, documentation and processing of blood, specimen and / or urine sample (s) as ordered by the medical provider and / or current standing orders.
  • Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids the physician / nurse practitioner during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatment to physicians / nurse practitioners.
  • Maintains timely flow of patients.
  • Greets patients and prepares them for examination by the physician or nurse practitioner. Screens patients for appropriate information. Instructs patients on sample collection and testing.
  • Arranges for patients testing and information.
  • Formulates and updates patient care plans. Orders, prepares, and inspects patients’ charts. Posts tests and examination results.
  • Responsible for preparation of exam rooms including re-stocking of treatment areas.
  • Adheres to Clinical / Nursing Department policies and procedures.
  • Complies with Infection Control and OSHA Regulations (handling and disposal of biomedical waste) for the center as per regulations.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Monitors emergency kit and oxygen tanks as required.
  • Monitors and maintains supplies and medication closet.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the clinic’s budget and inventory by placing cost-effective orders of clinical supply and medication.
  • Maintain Quality Controls by performing QC tests and maintaining QC records.
  • Assist in the completion of referrals, diagnostics and other related tasks in a timely manner.
  • Maintains tracking, documentation and assistance in the completion of Uniform Data System (UDS), Healthcare Effectiveness Data and information set (HEDIS), and Care Gap Measures.
  • Clinical Documentation-Provide assistance to the medical provider by means of patient information entered and updated in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the MCM are to create a smoothly run efficient clinic.

Required Skills / Abilities :

  • Clinical Skills : Proficiency in administering medications, taking vital signs, phlebotomy, injections, performing basic wound care, and assisting with patient examinations and preparations.
  • Patient Care : Ability to provide compassionate and personalized care, including monitoring patient conditions and responding to their needs.
  • Communication Skills : Strong verbal and written communication to interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams effectively.
  • Documentation : Accuracy in documenting patient information, medical histories, and treatment plans in electronic health records (EHR).
  • Attention to Detail : Precision in following medical instructions and administering treatments to ensure patient safety.
  • Time Management : The ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and handle multiple patients or responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Teamwork : Collaborating well with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver quality care.
  • Patient Education : Ability to explain medical instructions, procedures, and health recommendations clearly to patients.
  • Problem-Solving : Ability to assess patient conditions, recognize changes, and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Knowledge of Medical Equipment : Familiarity with using and maintaining the clinic’s medical tools and equipment.
  • Confidentiality and Ethics : Understanding patient privacy laws (HIPAA) and adhering to ethical standards in healthcare.
  • Adaptability : Ability to stay calm under pressure and adjust to changing clinic needs or patient conditions.
  • Education / Experience :

  • LPN Program : Completion of a state-approved practical nursing program, typically lasting about one year, which includes both classroom instruction and clinical practice.
  • Licensing : Successful completion of the NCLEX-PN (National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses) to obtain LPN licensure in Florida.
  • Clinical Experience : Practical experience gained during the LPN training program, which typically includes clinical rotations in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, or clinics.
  • Experience in Healthcare : Previous experience working in healthcare or a clinical setting is often preferred but not always required for entry-level positions. This can include internships, externships, or volunteer work.
  • Physical Demands :

  • Standing and Walking : LPNs often spend long hours on their feet, moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the clinic.
  • Lifting and Carrying : There may be a need to lift or assist patients with mobility, as well as carry medical equipment, supplies, and sometimes heavier items like oxygen tanks.
  • Bending and Stooping : Bending over to assist patients, take blood samples, or perform certain medical procedures is common.
  • Reaching : LPNs may need to reach for medical supplies, adjust equipment, or perform tasks at various heights.
  • Manual Dexterity : Fine motor skills are necessary for tasks such as administering injections, drawing blood, and handling medical equipment.
  • Endurance : The role often requires sustained energy, as LPNs may work long shifts, including nights or weekends, and perform multiple tasks throughout the day.
  • Emotional Resilience : The physical demands are coupled with the mental and emotional strain of providing patient care, which can be demanding but also rewarding.
  • Fast-Paced Work : The job may require quick, efficient actions in high-pressure situations, such as emergencies or handling multiple patients at once.
