ABOUT OUR SCHOOL:

Saint Mary's offers its student body of about 500 young men and women a rigorous Catholic liberal arts and sciences curriculum, a developed fine arts program, a variety of extracurricular activities, regular access to the sacraments, and a strong retreat program. As a diocesan Catholic school, Saint Mary's takes great pride in striving to form virtuous young men and women who know the Truth and love the Good. PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Under the supervision of the Principal, the Campus Minister/High School Coordinator of Campus Evangelization helps create an environment which guides and encourages all members of the school community to contribute to the Catholic identity of the campus and the formation of the faith community which responds to the spiritual needs of the students, teachers, staff and parents.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Forming a Faith Community
  • Promotes Gospel values and upholds doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Promotes an atmosphere and environment based on Catholic faith, traditions and virtues
  • Fosters Christian hospitality
  • Acknowledges and celebrates diversity within the school community
  • Communicates regularly with the priest chaplain, principal, faculty and staff, students, and parents regarding evangelization activities, service programs and projects, sacramental preparation, and liturgical services
  • Works collaboratively with the priest chaplain, Assistant Principal for Student Life, Family and Faith Engagement Chairperson, and administration in the development of faith centered programs that involve students, parents, alumni and benefactors
  • Articulates and gives evidence of Catholic living by the witness of their lives
  1. In collaboration with the Priest Chaplain and Principal
  • Takes the lead in organizing, planning and implementing an effective retreat program for students, parents, faculty and staff that contributes to community building, faith development, evangelization and leadership with input from principal and chaplain
  • Directs the Kairos retreat program
  • Assists in providing opportunities for growing in a personal relationship with Jesus
  • Assists in offering a variety of prayer experiences; personal and communal
  • Coordinates opportunities for students, parents, faculty and staff to celebrate the sacraments, especially Eucharist and Reconciliation
  • Coordinates liturgical celebrations including daily Masses and class Masses
  • Coordinates training for liturgical ministers; extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Ministers of the Word, the Columbian Squires (altar servers) and others involved with Liturgical celebrations
  • Coordinates the use of the chapel
  1. Moral Formation:
  • Provides opportunities to enrich and expand the understanding of Scripture, prayer, and Sacred Tradition
  • Provides pastoral guidance and support to students, parents, faculty and staff
  1. Social Justice:
  • Provides opportunities for students to engage in direct community service and social justice opportunities based on the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching
  • Infuses the concepts of peace, justice and human dignity into all aspects of evangelization
  • Develops relationships with Catholic non-profits and others in which classes, clubs, teams, and other groups of students, faculty, staff, and parents can serve the greater community
  • Work with Cityserve, Saint Vincent de Paul Society, and other organizations to help provide food and resource security for our students and their families
  1. Preparation of Lay Leaders in the Church:
  • Affirms parents/guardians in their role as the primary educators
  • Encourages students to discern their vocation for which God has called them
  • Provides resources for students to experience religious, academic and social support to thrive in today's church and society
  • Provides opportunities for students to develop leadership skills
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Visible and present on the school campus and at school activities
  • Maintains a collaborative relationship with the priest chaplain, administrators, pastors and youth leaders in neighboring parishes and the Diocesan Offices of Education and Evangelization
  • Nourishes one's own personal, professional and spiritual development
  • Oversees the budgetary process for Campus Ministry/Evangelization
  • Attends Diocesan meetings for Campus Ministers/Evangelization
  • Stays abreast of current developments of evangelization
  • Available to students, staff, faculty and parents
  • Seeks resources to support students
  • Performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal/priest chaplain
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • A basic understanding of Roman Catholic teaching in the following areas: God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Church, Pastoral Theology, Ethics and Moral Theology, Liturgy and Sacraments, Justice and Peace, Spirituality, Prayer, Scripture and Catholic Doctrine
  • Demonstrates personal self-discipline, is adaptable and flexible in routine and unexpected situations
  • Skills in communication, listening, initiative, creativity and problem solving
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of child psychology and adolescent development
  • Ability to work in a team setting as a team member
  • Ability to build rapport and collaboration
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be practicing Catholic (Bona-Fide Occupational Qualifications - BFOQ) in good canonical standing
  • Possesses the equivalent of a bachelor's degree in theology, religious studies or a related field (Masters degree preferred)
  • Certified by the Arizona State Department of Education with a minimum of a Substitute Certificate
  • Completed Catechist Certification and/or re-certification as required by Diocesan policy
  • Completed Safe Environment Training and signed the Code of Conduct
  • Completed FBI Fingerprint clearance

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Eleven-month employee (paid in 12-month contract), full-time, salaried. A schedule of mandatory days and extra responsibilities is provided prior to the start of the new school year. Some evening, weekend, and overnight hours are required.
