Responsibilities
Visit and analyze fuel and reagent suppliers to determine production cost and capabilities and to access the possibility of future issues affecting coal supply and quality.
Work with coal suppliers and electric generation plant personnel to determine lower cost ways of mining, handling and utilizing coal and other fuels.
Attend all supplier and power plant scale test and sampling system bias test. Maintain records (to include test results / reports) of power plant and supplier sampling, weighing and analysis systems to ensure they comply with company (SOX narratives and associated internal controls) and contract standards.
Perform in-depth analyses of opportunities and options available for the supply of generation fuel to the power plants.
Make spot visits to monitor supplier’s loadings, ensuring scales and sampling system are in compliance with required standards.
Coordinate the annual coal and limestone stockpile surveys at our power plants and prepare reports of the results.
Assist with the evaluation of supplier / transporter government imposition claims.
Assist generating plants with handling, blending and utilization of fuel.
Plan and develop special projects.
Analyze data for engineering studies, draw conclusions and present to appropriate individuals.
Perform quarterly Operational Capability Assessments to evaluate the level of risk associated with each coal supplier.
Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Education Requirement
ABET Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in coal to include surface mining, underground mining and engineering of mines and material handling systems, is preferred.
Experience with coal or limestone is preferred.
Experience related to the analysis of mine acquisitions, coal quality analysis and good written and verbal communication skills is helpful.
