Join our leadership team as Controller!
The Controller is a collaborative, hands-on leader who partners closely with the CFO, finance team, and colleagues across our hostels and departments to support a mission-driven organization. This role oversees the day-to-day operations of the finance function while shaping strong financial practices that enable growth, accountability, and impact.
As Controller, you'll ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain effective internal controls, and continuously improve processes that support organizational efficiency. You'll play a key role in financial analysis, compliance, audit coordination, and strategic planning-providing budgeting, forecasting, and performance insights that help drive informed decisions and strong bottom-line results.
This position also serves on HI USA's Senior Leadership Committee, contributing financial perspective, analysis, and ideas to organization-wide initiatives and long-term strategy.
Responsibilities :
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the finance and accounting function, including management, development, and mentorship of finance staff.
- Own the close process and financial reporting for consolidated, departmental, and hostel operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP.
- Review and analyze financial results and variances across consolidated, departmental, and hostel levels, ensuring clear and reliable financial reporting.
- Partner closely with the CFO, VP of Hostel Network, and hostel leadership to drive financial performance, cost optimization, and revenue opportunities.
- Provide oversight of general ledger operations and financial reporting structures, ensuring data integrity and consistency across the organization.
- Identify and lead initiatives to streamline, standardize, and automate accounting and financial processes, including at the hostel level.
- Oversee cash management, banking activity, accounts payable controls, debt obligations, and lender compliance.
- Ensure strong internal controls and consistent application of accounting policies and procedures across the organization.
- Serve as a finance partner to department and hostel leaders, supporting budgeting, forecasting, and analysis of financial performance.
- Lead coordination with external auditors for audits, Form 990 preparation, restricted funds reporting, tax and regulatory filings.
- Participate as a member of the Senior Leadership Committee.
Skills / Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related fieldActive CPA licensePrior experience in a Controller role, minimum 10 years experience.Experience in related industry preferred (non-profit, hospitality, real estate)Supervisory / management experience required, including managing remote operations.Tech savvy with extensive knowledge of Excel, accounting systems.
