Role Overview : The Internal Auditor performs independent and objective assurance and consulting activities designed to add value and improve operations. This highly visible position conducts internal audit and operational reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control processes across agency programs and business operations. This role requires sound professional judgement in planning and performing audits, analyzing business practices, identifying risks and control weaknesses, and developing recommendations to enhance efficiency, compliance, and accountability. Experience in auditing and / or business operations is preferred. This position is located in the Indianapolis, Indiana, Field Office. Residency in the service area is highly preferred. Travel is reimbursed. Salary : This position starts at an annual salary of $59,900 with the opportunity for adjustment based on relevant experience and skill sets of the applicant. The Department utilizes three auditor-level classifications based on acquired competencies and demonstrated skill sets. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience. A Day in the Life : Responsibilities include : conducting independent and objective assurance engagements, reviewing operations and systems for financial accuracy and compliance with laws and regulations, assessing the effectiveness of internal controls, identifying areas of risk, compromise, and non-compliance, identifying areas to improve effectiveness, oversight, and governance, reporting findings to agency leadership, generating recommendations for improvements and compliance, responding to requests to identify declines in operation efficiencies and systematic challenges, promoting continuous improvement and accountability, and remaining current on federal, state, and agency compliance statutes and guidelines.
What You'll Need for Success : Credentials : Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 15 hours of Accounting coursework. 3 5 years of experience in tax auditing. Additional qualifications : working knowledge of accounting principles and auditing standards and procedures, general knowledge of statutes, regulations, and case law related to tax compliance, ability to generate data requests and to extract, evaluate, and use information from a variety of business records, ability to effectively interview and solicit pertinent information from taxpayers and their representatives, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, taxpayers, their representatives, and others involved in the audit process, ability to travel overnight in the performance of assigned audits, and ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations. Supervisory Responsibilities / Direct Reports : This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
