LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR SERVICES

1. May provide classes (e.g., stress management class, sleep enhancement class, chronic pain
class).
2. Works independently in the absence of direct oversight and adheres to Air Force values.
Effectively uses appropriate communication formats in addressing and resolving professional issues.
3. Must be skillful and tactful in communicating with people who may be physically or mentally
ill, uncooperative, fearful, emotionally distraught, and occasionally dangerous.
4. Must possess organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills to articulate medical
requirements to patients, families/caregivers, medical and nonmedical staff in a professional and
courteous way.
5. Participates in team efforts to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise the Hospital pathway
programs needed.
6. Provide concise documentation of care and recommendations in the patient's electronic medical record
record within the allowable timeframe defined by the MTF standard after the patient is seen.
7. Participating in approved research projects.
8. Use validated brief symptom inventories to assess current symptom severity.
9. Assess barriers to treatment adherence and help the patient problem-solve solutions to barriers.
10. Provide patients with education regarding their behavioral health condition and treatment
regimen.
11. Maintain patient information in a patient registry.
12. Maintain accurate and current notes in the electronic medical records of all patients contacted
for review by the managing physician.
13. Performs case management functions.
14. Provide for patients as scheduled by the Government.
15. Attend and participate in meetings during normal duty hours and professional staff conferences
and other appropriate professional activities, such as, but not limited to, the following: Quality
Improvement meeting, professional staff meetings, Commander's staff meetings, Flight meetings,
safety huddles and others required by applicable regulations, MTF guidance, or as directed by the
Flight Commander or his/her designated representative.
16. Maintain accurate and current notes in both the Mental Health records and inpatient medical records
records of all patients seen, as appropriate, and produces reports of evaluation and/or treatment,
as required.
17. Responsible for planning, designing, monitoring, coordinating, analyzing, and producing
scientific content for social and behavioral studies and regulatory documents needed to support
research studies
18. Participates in military-specific training (e.g., training to perform Command
19. Directed Evaluations, medical evaluation boards, temporary disability retirement list (TDRL)
evaluations, security clearances, Military Training Instructor clearances, pre-post deployment
screening, PTSD, and combat stress).
20. Performs computer operations and be proficient in the use of basic word processing, data entry,
and electronic medical records.
21. Produces a monthly average of patient visits and RVUs consistent with department norms.
22. Advises on problems related to mental health and the prevention of mental disorders.
23. Responsible for applying psychological procedures and techniques, including interviewing,
behavioral assessment, and providing evidence-based therapies (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy,
acceptance and commitment therapy, etc.), in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of
psychological disorders.
24. Individual, family, and group psychotherapy, couples therapy, alcohol and drug treatment
evaluations.
25. Consults with medical personnel, legal authorities, military commanders, and school districts,
as required.
