POSITION SUMMARY :

Under the supervision of the Y Learning Site Director, the Y Learning Counselor is responsible for leading, developing, building relationships and providing academic support to the students in the Y Learning program.

They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

• Supervises a group of children and leads them in physical activities.
• Assists students with homework.
• Leads growth mindset mini projects and implements pre-developed curriculum designed to increase literacy competency, social and emotional learning and group work development.
• Ensures delivery of snacks to all students and adheres to guidelines in place for snack distribution.
• Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards while also following YMCA policies and procedures related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
• Attending staff meetings and trainings.
• Maintains positive relationships with parents and other staff.
• Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

Additional Requirements for a Y-Learning Program : Y-Learning programs are in partnership with the WCPSS therefore you will be required to complete additional steps in the hiring process. A WCPSS Background Check will need to be completed and anyone that currently attends a Wake County High school will be required to submit Principal Recommendation form before working in the Y-learning program.
