Job Details

  • Provide safe care for patients following established standards and practices in accordance with professional and hospital standards.
  • Assist in coordination of patient care, collaborating with registered nurses and other health team members.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Support during surgical procedures but not as a surgical assistant.
  • Create and maintain asepsis and perform scrubbing duties.
  • Communicate patient information appropriately.
  • Account for all equipment and supplies used in patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, health team members, patients, and visitors.
  • Maintain adaptability and support teamwork within the department and units.
  • Perform clinical preceptor role for scrubbing and follow orientation outline.
  • Maintain cleanliness in unit and care for equipment used during surgical cases.
  • Perform other job duties and responsibilities as required.

    • Job Requirements

  • BLS certification from American Heart Association - Required.
  • Current certification in surgical technology through the NBSTSA - Required.
  • Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination - Required.
  • Clinical operating room experience highly desired : 1 year.
  • Must meet one of the following to practice surgical technology in a health care facility :
  • (a) Successfully completed an accredited educational program for surgical technologists and holds and maintains Surgical Technologist Certification administered by NBSTSA or successor.
  • (b) Completed appropriate training program for surgical technology in US military or Public Health Service.
  • (c) Employed to practice surgical technology in this State prior to January 1, 2008.
  • (d) In service of the federal government performing related duties.
  • Primary Source Verification required.

    • Additional Details

  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to provide patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Limited access to Medication Rooms; medications should not be handled.
  • Work demands include frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, lifting / moving patients, pushing / pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent use of finger / hand dexterity and constant reaching with hands / arms and twisting.
  • Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, infectious materials, communicable diseases, and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Moderate to high noise level in work area.
  • Work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours.
  • May be required to take call and / or work weekends / holidays based on department needs.
