Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a busy Emergency Room position in California, requiring CA RN licensure and strong acute care skills.

Responsibilities

  • Position is within an acute care hospital Emergency Room setting with 24+ beds
  • Patient population is a mix of adults and pediatric patients, averaging 150 visits per day
  • Nurses maintain a 1 : 4 patient ratio
  • Common cases include acute and emergent conditions, with some psych holds and care for a large homeless population
  • Moderate conscious sedation is performed and related competency testing is required
  • Uses Cerner FirstNet EMR and Phillips telemetry monitoring equipment
  • Ventilator management is required and hospitalist / intensivist support is onsite 24 / 7
  • Navy scrubs are required for all shifts
  • 12-hour night shifts with varying start times at 5pm or 7pm
  • Weekend shifts are required every other weekend
  • No floating required
  • Block scheduling requests cannot be accommodated
  • Duties involve rapid triage, patient care coordination, and management of acute and emergent conditions in a high-volume ER
  • Orientation consists of two floor-specific shifts in addition to standard onboarding
  • Charge nurse and PCT support available on unit
  • Work alongside pharmacy and respiratory therapy teams available 24 / 7
  • Candidates may not have been employed by affiliated health systems (including Dignity or CHI) within the past year
  • Holiday shifts are worked as part of the core staff rotation
  • First-time travelers are not specifically excluded

    • Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required at the time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years recent ER nursing experience required
  • Certifications required : BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS
  • Moderate conscious sedation competency testing must be passed prior to start
  • COVID-19 vaccination required
  • Must provide two professional references : one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
  • Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
