Job Description

The School of Public Health welcomes applications for an Academic Advisor 1 or an Academic Advisor 2 to join a team of advisors who are committed to student success at the University and beyond. Ideal candidates are eager to build strong relationships with students and are enthusiastic to learn new skills. The Academic Advisor will serve as a resource for all new and current students to assure that they are making timely progress towards degree completion. Reporting to the Director of Student Success, the advisor will be part of a collaborative culture that will help students succeed.

Academic Advisor 1

The Academic Advisor 1 is responsible for providing academic advising to prospective, new, transfer and continuing undergraduate education students in individual and group advising settings regarding schedule, choice of major, number of hours to be taken, etc. The Academic Advisor 1 provides expertise in core curriculum, major program requirements, participates in retention activities, and may be involved in recruitment events and other college-specific special projects assigned.

Academic Advisor 2

The Academic Advisor 2 is responsible for traditional advising of students with services such as individual and group advising settings regarding schedule, choice of major, number of hours to be taken, etc. The Academic Advisor 2 is also responsible for advising returning students, creating advisement plans for targeted groups of students, and developing advising and recruitment materials. The Academic Advisor 2 provides training and support to peer leaders and faculty for college specific directives while also organizing recruitment activities on and off campus and maintaining community relationships.

Required Qualifications **Candidates will be hired at the level that is comparable to their experience, knowledge, skills and abilities

Academic Advisor 1

Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience; OR

Master’s degree and one (1) year related work experience

Related Experience: in a field related to academic advising or student services.

Academic Advisor 2

Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience; OR

Master’s degree and one (1) year related work experience

Related Experience: Academic advising, teaching, student services or related fields.

Grants-in-Aid

The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate.
