IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Program Supervisor
GENERAL FUNCTION: The person occupying this position provides direct services to clients and creates a safe environment for these clients. Primary responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention and activities of daily living. Participates in recovery focused activities both individually and in groups. Participates in consultation and education activities, provides hope, empowerment and teaches new tools for coping to clients.

QUALIFICATIONS; KNOWLEDGE AND REQUIRED TRAINING: The person occupying this position must have a high school diploma or GED. Any course work or training in the area of mental health, or experience working with a mental health or mental retardation consumer population is preferred. Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a treatment setting dealing with emotionally or socially disturbed individuals. Must possess knowledge of psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationships processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting and behavior management, crisis management with aggressive behaviors, CPI and CPR training. Must demonstrate an ability to use mature judgment in problem resolution, to function creatively in evolving appropriate treatment strategies for Center clients to operate effectively in a multidisciplinary setting. A valid driver's license with an F endorsement (or its equivalent) and a good driving record is required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Can include any of the following:
- Observes and monitors behavior provide supervision to all clients admitted for services.
- Aids clients in the reduction of psychiatric symptoms.
- Participates in the development of individual treatment plans for clients.
- Makes recommendations regarding the treatment of clients.
- Assists peer specialist, clinical and medical staff in planning and conducting recovery and treatment activities provided for clients.
- Evaluates clients' progress in treatment.
- Participates in discharge planning.
- Participates in case conferences regarding clients.
- When appropriate, makes referrals to other agencies.
- Participates in individual and group counseling utilizing recovery concepts.
- Documents all contact and observation of clients' behavior and progress.
- Maintains completeness of charts and other documentation.
- Provides follow-up contact after discharge to aid in continuity of care process.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS: In order to appropriately accomplish his/her duties, the person occupying this position will be required to maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of seriously and persistently mentally ill residents, family members, housing representatives, and clinical staff people.
