Essential Duties and Responsibilities

All duties and responsibilities include the following; however, other duties may be assigned. To perform in this position

successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be

  • Assists in the design of site-specific safety programs.
  • Conducts random safety audits and reviews results using statistical evaluation, audit reports and feedback.
  • Interfaces with on-site subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Establishes relationships with clients' safety staff.
  • Conducts site safety orientations.
  • Coordinates site specific substance abuse testing, if applicable.
  • Routinely audits on-site safety compliance.
  • Ensures the safe, effective and efficient operation of the department / work unit.
  • Provides total commitment to continuous process improvement.
  • Models and reinforces safety as a top priority of the organization. Always wears a hard hat and other appropriate

personal protective equipment in the field.

  • Meets schedules and deadlines, adheres to policies and procedures and maintains a good attendance / tardiness
  • record.

  • Ensures client satisfaction, both internally and externally, through efficient handling of issues.
  • Exercises good interpersonal skills by gladly assisting others to accomplish work of the organization, even it is
  • outside the scope of regular duties.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Knowledge / Skills / Ability

    Ability to represent to all persons the Flintco Ethos that encourages the highest level of performance, integrity and morale.

    Reads, analyzes and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental

    regulations. Writes reports, business correspondence. Effectively presents information and responds to questions from

    groups of managers, clients, clients and the general public. Works with mathematical concepts such as probability and

    statistical inference. Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Solves

    practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

    Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Organizes and manages time, duties

    and activities efficiently.

    Education

    Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Health & Safety, Engineering, Construction Management or related field or an equivalent

    combination of education and experience.

    Experience

    The Project Safety Manager experience must include at least seven (7) years that have been dedicated solely to building construction safety with at least 5 years of construction safety process management experience. Any candidate that has completed a four (4) year degree in a safety-related discipline must have at least three (3) years of actual field experience in safety to qualify. The Project safety Manager must have practical knowledge, working experience, and document continuing education in fall protection, scaffolds, excavation, confined space, crane / equipment operations, electrical, incident investigation, and other such safety / health related training. Training of less than four (4) hours in duration per topic will not be considered acceptable for this requirement. Continuing education of noted Construction Outreach or OSHA 510 certificates will not be acceptable for this training requirement. The Project Safety Manager must show evidence of specialized training for Emergency First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) current to within two (2) years.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    The Project Safety Manager shall possess a certificate of completion for the OSHA 500 (Train the Trainer in Occupational Safety and Health for Construction Industry) or OSHA 502 (Update for the Construction Industry Outreach Trainer). CHST, ASP or CHSO required. First Aid / CPR / AED Certifications required. 30-hour OSHA required

  • depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Occasionally, especially when managing multiple projects and during problematic opening and / or closing phases of
  • projects, mental stress can be taxing.

  • May be required to work long hours for extended periods of time.
  • Special Job Dimensions

    The office provides a safe and healthy work environment, is adequately heated and cooled, is free from exposure and extreme

    conditions, has appropriate lighting and office furnishings, and is smoke-free and drug-free. While performing the duties of

    this position in the fabrication shop, warehouse, maintenance shop or at a project site, the employee could be regularly

    exposed to any number of the following, including, but not limited to : moving mechanical parts; moving machinery; high,

    precarious places (including, but not limited to, being raised several hundred feet in a bucket); close tight quarters; rough and

    sloped terrain; fumes or airborne particles; drilling and blasting activities; welding activities; toxic or caustic chemicals; the

    potential of falling rock; and outside weather conditions. The employee may be occasionally exposed to risk of electrical

    shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is generally loud.
