Duties and Responsibilities :
The Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts (MOCA) seeks a Cultural & Arts Coordinator to provide hands-on programmatic and operational support for cultural and arts co-sponsorships, exhibitions, and public events in direct alignment with the mission and priorities of the office. The Coordinator serves as a key execution partner- stewarding relationships with artists, cultural practitioners, nonprofit partners, and internal City stakeholders in support of programming that is inclusive, culturally grounded, and accessible to the public while recognizing Native Hawaiian traditions, supporting local artists, and uplifting diverse communities. This is an at-will appointment with the City and County of Honolulu.
- Independently coordinate and execute MOCA-led and MOCA-supported cultural programs, exhibitions, performances, workshops, and community activations, ensuring smooth delivery and positive participant experiences
- Manage day-to-day program logistics including schedules, venues, permits, accessibility needs, equipment, and on-site coordination
- For assigned programs, serve as the primary point of contact for cultural practitioners, artists, and community partners supporting onboarding, contracts, memo request processing, and culturally respectful engagement
- Support additional MOCA initiatives, such as Wahi Pana : Storied Places, providing coordination and execution assistance as needed
- Drive MOCA cultural and arts co-sponsorships by tracking deliverables, timelines, and commitments, and assisting with run-of-show materials and post-event summaries
- Communicate clearly and consistently with the internal MOCA leadership and team to ensure shared understanding of program status, priorities, timelines, and next steps
- Exercise sound judgment to address routine issues independently and escalate complex matters appropriately and timely
- Maintain accurate program documentation, calendars, trackers, and basic budget records in alignment with City processes
- Assist with data collection, attendance tracking, and program documentation to support transparency, OKR and KPI reporting, and institutional knowledge
- Support preparation of program descriptions, briefs, and public-facing materials consistent with MOCA's voice and values
Preferred Qualifications
- 5-7 years supporting arts, culture, community programming, or nonprofit initiatives
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and follow through with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational and coordination skills with attention to detail and accountability
- Direct work with artists, cultural practitioners, or community-based organizations
- Ability to prioritize competing demands and adapt in a fast-paced, public-facing environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear written materials and communicate with professionalism, influence, and cultural awareness
- Background supporting exhibitions, performances, or public cultural programming
- Familiarity with cultural protocol, community-based work, or Native Hawaiian and local cultural contexts
- Exposure to public-sector or nonprofit operations
- Comfort with basic budget tracking, documentation, and administrative processes
