We are seeking a hands-on Controller for a critical role within a small & closely held organization. The Controller will oversee the company's financial operations as well as act as a strategic advisor to ownership & business partners. This position will be responsible for overseeing the accuracy of day to day accounting operations in addition to forward planning functions. The well qualified candidate will have extensive experience in project-based accounting and be comfortable wearing different hats and juggling priorities to achieve company objectives.
Financial Management / Accounting Operations
- Oversee all aspects of accounting operations including General Ledger management, cashflow maintenance, financial reporting, and staff supervision.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Reconcile bank and balance sheet accounts, performs additional reconciliations as needed.
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets
- Own budgeting, forecasting and long range planning functions.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to owners to support decision making
- Manage relationships with external financial partners, brokers, and tax firms / CPA.
Department Leadership / Process Improvement
Lead, mentor, and develop an intimate accounting team, establishing clear goals and objectivesDevelop and implement best practices for financial processes and systemsIdentify opportunities for process improvement and cost reductionConduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to team membersQualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldMinimum 7+ years of full-cycle accounting experience within a construction or related industryStrong understanding of project accounting principles, including WIP and job costingStrong proficiency in accounting / ERP systems, in addition to advanced proficiency in MS Excel
