Position: Sr. Phlebotomist
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Phlebotomy Coordinator, the Sr. Phlebotomist assumes the responsibility for performing venipunctures, capillary blood specimen collections, point of care testing (POCT), and
related procedures under the philosophy, policies and procedures established by the hospital and the Department of Laboratory Services. The Sr. Phlebotomist, under the guidance of the Phlebotomy Coordinator, will assist in the training
and guidance of phlebotomy students and new employees. These responsibilities encompass the internal functioning of the Department and the integration of the Department into the overall functioning of Northwest Texas Healthcare System.
The Sr. Phlebotomist supports an organizational culture of Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence standards to all customer groups.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Practices the profession of phlebotomy in the area(s) of assigned responsibility according to accepted standards of practice as outlined by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), CLIA ’, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and other regulatory agencies as appropriate, and according to the approved policies and procedures of the organization, department, and/or the laboratory Medical Director. Participates in and supports a process to measure, assess, and performance improvement in areas of assign responsibility. Performs phlebotomy and waived testing procedures in assign areas of the laboratory, clinics, outreach facilities, health fairs, and home-bound patient locations
optimizing the efficiency and quality of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical laboratory procedures.

Education, Training, Experience and Licenses/Registrations Required:
1. Minimum Education: High school education with phlebotomy training is preferred; Two years of college education preferred.
2. Minimum Work Experience: One year of full-time experience preferred.
3. Certifications: Sr. Phlebotomist - graduation and certificate of completion from accredited phlebotomy program; certification from ASCP, NCA preferred.
4. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association upon hire or within days of start date and maintain certification throughout employment. This must be obtained prior to providing patient care.
5. Valid Texas Drivers License with no more then 3 moving violations in the past 3 years.
