Metrology Technician Wayland MI

Salary Range : $49000 - $76000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform calibration verification and preventative maintenance of precision measurement equipment and gauges.
  • Conduct dimensional inspections of manufactured parts tooling and fixtures using CMMs optical comparators calipers micrometers and other metrology tools.
  • Document calibration records inspection results and non-conformance reports accurately and thoroughly.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve measurement discrepancies equipment malfunctions and provide technical support to production.
  • Develop implement and maintain metrology procedures work instructions and best practices.
  • Analyze measurement data to identify trends process variations and support quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support the selection acquisition and validation of new metrology equipment.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Proficiency in operating and programming CMMs vision systems and conventional metrology tools (calipers micrometers gauges).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Solid understanding of measurement principles calibration processes and quality management systems (e.g. ISO 9001).
  • Experience with metrology software (e.g. PC-DMIS Calypso) and data analysis for quality control.
  • Technical degree or certification in metrology quality assurance or a related technical discipline.

  • Proficiency in CMM programming languages (e.g. PC-DMIS Calypso MCOSMOS).
  • Experience with advanced metrology equipment such as laser scanners CT scanners or structured light systems.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or similar continuous improvement methodology training.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g. Minitab JMP) for process capability studies.
  • Ability to interpret and utilize CAD models (e.g. SolidWorks CATIA) for measurement planning and analysis.
