Position Purpose:

The Information Services Librarian is a part-time evening and weekend position that supports learning by providing student-centered reference services and occasional programming or instruction. The Information Services Librarian is versatile and imaginative and can provide high quality student-oriented reference services in order to ensure the continuity of library services into the evening hours and/or on the weekends.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provides student centered reference services and information literacy support.
• Opening and closing library; ensuring continuity of library services across shifts, including supervising student workers.
• Knowledge of face-to-face and online instruction strategies; comfortable learning new technologies.
• Flexibility and creativity to initiate new instructional services or programming in the library.
• May assist with collection development in assigned subject areas.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

• Masters in Library and Information Science
• Additional bachelor's degree

Experience:

• Experience in providing reference services to library users required, academic library setting preferred.
• Familiarity with online library resources, with an emphasis on Health Science and Social Work resources preferred.

Skills:

• A collaborative disposition. Willingness to work with library colleagues in a rapidly changing information environment. Ability to work collaboratively with other campus departments and individuals.
• Dedication to teamwork. We are a very small department where each person contributes unique talents to the whole. Flexibility and acceptance of change are necessary.
• Communicates effectively to student patrons, co-workers, and the campus community both orally and in writing.

Physical Requirements:

• Sitting or standing at desk to assist students; lifting books and pushing book carts; extensive use of computers and other technology.
