Note: This is a short-term contract for the remainder of the current school year. RCS intends to renew the contract for the 2025-2026 school year (08/01/2025 - 05/30/2026) for qualified and willing candidates.

Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Rutherford County Schools

General Summary:

The LPN in the school setting is responsible for implementing nursing procedures and related activities under the supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse (RN). The purpose is to enhance the health and well-being of school-aged children and adolescents, in alignment with the Nurse Practice Act and the policies of Rutherford County Schools.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work collaboratively with the RN assigned to the school.
• Prepare and administer medications and treatments under RN supervision.
• Provide tracheostomy care proficiently.
• Act promptly in emergencies using first aid and nursing knowledge.
• Maintain complete documentation of care.
• Ensure clear communication with the RN and school staff while upholding confidentiality.

Dress Code:

• Must wear scrubs or lab coat over business casual attire.
• No low-cut or revealing tops, sweatpants, jeans (except on casual days), perfumes, colognes, or smoking.

Terms of Employment:

• Full-time, 10-month, non-tenured position.
• Mileage reimbursement provided for travel between schools (beyond first location).
• RCS will conduct background and fingerprinting checks upon candidate selection.

Qualifications:

• Active Tennessee LPN license in good standing.
• Graduate of a Practical Nurse program.
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience in school nursing, pediatrics, community health, home health, or emergency care.
• Strong verbal/written communication and computer documentation skills.
• Physically capable of supporting pre-K through 12th-grade students (e.g., lifting, stooping, bending).
• Must have access to a reliable vehicle for inter-school travel.
