The EXCEL! Zone exists to provide efficacious, timely, and intentional individual and group study spaces where CCD students can be supported in learning. The EXCEL! Zone provides robust 1:1, group, and embedded tutoring support in Math, Physics, Biology, Chemistry & Statistics; Writing &Digital Literacy & Digital Storytelling, through in-person and remote tutoring with a commitment to cultivating self-reliant learners.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
• Support students with functional- intermediate technology skills including logging in, D2L navigation, CCD Connect, printing, troubleshooting, uploading, as well as assignments such as PowerPoint presentations and edited Digital stories
• Tutor in person, online and as an embedded tutor in classrooms
• Develop students’ critical thinking skills through modeling and guided work
• Support outreach via outposts on campus, and at special events
• Visit classrooms to inform students of EXCEL general services
• Develop supplemental videos related to relevant digital tools frequently used
All EXCEL team members gain immeasurable skills related to customer service and tutoring. Digital Zone training begins on the first day of work and includes:• Tutor training with video resources, shadowing, checklists, and public speaking• Northstar Digital Literacy certifications in 15 modules• WeVideo tutorials and video production training
Qualifications
The EXCEL! Zone is an energetic, fast-paced, welcoming center for all CCD students, faculty, and staff to utilize so we seek someone who has:
Excellent customer service skills•
Can be a self-starter and ability to work well as part of a team•
Ability to learn and adapt to student needs•
Demonstrate responsibility, reliability, collegiality, and dependability•
Willingness to work with people from diverse backgrounds•
Ability to adhere to expectations of confidentiality concerning student information
Work evenings and weekends
Working knowledge of:
• Microsoft Office
• Google Suite
• Outlook
• OneDrive
• D2L
• Webex
• WeVideo (or comfortable with technology and willing to learn new programs)Required to have a 2.0 GPA minimum (excluding first-time CCD students), enrolled in at least 6 credits and proof of work-study award
Supplemental Information
Students in all Pathways and areas of study would be well suited in the Digital Zone; Students with strong Microsoft Office skills, video production skills, or just increased comfort in functional technology will thrive in this job.
