Position Summary
As a Senior Cloud Systems Engineer , you will play a key technical leadership role in the design, development, deployment, and operations of a national security system currently under development. You will lead cloud architecture, infrastructure as code, automation, integration with enterprise data and analytics, and provide cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders in security, risk management, and industry partners. The role requires deep experience in public / private / hybrid cloud environments, secure architectures, DevOps / DevSecOps, and the ability to mentor engineers and shape the future-state platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical subject-matter expert : evaluate emerging cloud technologies, make recommendations for architecture roadmaps, vendor technologies, tools, and services.
- Lead the design, architecture, development, and deployment of cloud-based infrastructure supporting system development and related services - emphasizing scalability, resiliency, security, performance, cost-optimization, and integration across enterprise systems.
- Develop and enforce Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates, automation pipelines (CI / CD), and tooling to support repeated deployment, micro-services, containerized workloads, and serverless functions where appropriate.
- Lead migration / modernization of legacy systems to modern cloud-native architecture, including hybrid or multi-cloud strategies.
- Collaborate with enterprise data engineering, analytics, threat / intelligence teams, vendor / contractor partners, and internal engineering teams to integrate data ingestion, pipelines, dashboards, and analytic services for risk monitoring and reporting.
- Ensure cloud environments adhere to federal security standards and compliance frameworks.
- Drive monitoring / observability, incident response integration, performance / capacity planning, and cost management of cloud infrastructure.
- Mentor and coach mid-level and junior engineers; build a culture of automation, reliability, security-by-design, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in senior-level technical reviews, architecture boards, acquisition discussions, and support program management offices (PMO) in reporting status, risks, and technology roadmap.
- Occasionally support after-hours or on-call activities for major incidents or system emergencies as required by mission operations.
