Executive Director Of Educational Technology
The Executive Director of Educational Technology provides strategic, operational, financial, and administrative leadership for educational technology and IT initiatives. This position collaborates closely with academic and administrative leaders to develop and implement technology solutions that enhance teaching, learning, and operational efficiency for faculty, students, and staff. In collaboration with Information Technology and other institutional stakeholders, the Executive Director of Educational Technology develops and implements IT policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to state regulations related to the implementation of educational software.
Position Key Accountabilities :
- Consults with and provides recommendations to Executive Leadership on a broad range of information technology and educational technology business-related matters and software solutions.
- Provides senior management with financial reports and analysis necessary to make strategic budget and financial decisions.
- Develops an administrative technology plan and budget.
- Serves as the primary liaison for information and educational technology activities, school-wide and between business-related entities external to the UTHealth.
- Represents the interests of the school on university-level information technology committees and at ad hoc meetings and forums. Participates in university-wide information technology activities.
- Participates in and / or leads special projects and teams as designated by representatives of Executive Leadership in support of business processes and educational technology goals.
- Works with clients, project, and administrative leadership teams to evaluate, recommend, and implement appropriate directions for proposed new applications as well as revisions / updates to existing systems, school-wide. Leverages connections to other UTHealth departments to provide solutions and / or build teams to meet the objectives of leadership or department goals.
- Provides enhancements and problem resolution for existing systems, as well as provides management and implementation of new processes and applications to meet both current and forecasted faculty and student education technology and business-related needs.
- Identifies opportunities to leverage existing technologies for curriculum advancement and business processes improvement.
- Keeps abreast of current technology and recommends improvements to current systems.
- Ensures adequate resources are secured and in place to support the information technology, educational technology, and business-related objectives, including project teams and daily application support and development for related applications and systems.
- Manages school-wide education technology and classroom components. Coordinates e-learning projects with administration, user groups, faculty, and staff, addressing major work areas of school-wide technology infrastructure, instructional development process, and application for online courses and course delivery, supporting best practices in online teaching and learning, and ongoing education technology quality improvement standards.
- Provides oversight and guidance to the work activities of staff, addressing major work areas of school-wide technology infrastructure, instructional development process, and application for educational technology delivery, supporting best practices in online teaching and learning, and ongoing education technology quality improvement standards. Guarantees that daily educational technology operations for the school are successfully met.
- Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports regarding : recruiting and selection; hiring and termination, training, development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
- Responsible for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are practical and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification / Skills :
Broad knowledge of current and emerging e-learning technologies.Understanding of development tools used to build e-learning applications.Understand technology development, electronic content development, and management practices.Familiar with copyright, intellectual property, and licensing.Minimum Education : Master's Degree in Instructional Technology, Education, or a related field required
Minimum Experience : 7 years of directly related experience in higher education, advanced instruction, and / or education technology management required
Physical Requirements : Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and / or up to 20 pounds frequently and / or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Security Sensitive : This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094. Residency Requirement : Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
