Title : Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist – Part time
Location : Raleigh, NC (Primary) with weekly travel to Charleston-area facilities
Hire Type : Part-Time Contract, Onsite
Schedule : 1–2 days per week (indefinite duration)
Compensation : $50.00 / hour
Job Summary :
A laboratory and chemical services client is seeking a Part-Time Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support bench-level chemical operations and laboratory environments. This role provides hands-on EHS execution and onsite oversight, ensuring compliance with regulatory, corporate, and site-specific safety requirements.
The EHS Specialist will support daily operations by conducting inspections, implementing safety programs, supporting reporting requirements, and serving as the onsite EHS presence. The ideal candidate has prior experience in a chemical handling or laboratory setting and can independently execute EHS tasks while collaborating with site leadership.
Job Duties :
- Support site management and supervision to ensure associates understand and comply with all applicable EHS regulations, policies, and procedures
- Maintain and administer site EHS systems, policies, and programs
- Conduct routine facility, equipment, and work practice inspections to identify potential safety, health, and environmental hazards
- Ensure EHS reporting is completed accurately and in a timely manner
- Lead and support incident and accident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations
- Act as the company representative when interacting with regulatory and government agencies related to EHS matters
- Develop, implement, and update health and safety procedures for laboratory and operational areas
- Prepare, schedule, and deliver EHS training, including emergency response and workplace safety topics
- Compile and submit required safety, health, and environmental reports to corporate and regulatory agencies
- Assist with managing contractor EHS compliance
- Perform additional EHS-related duties as assigned
Qualifications :
3–5 years of hands-on EHS experience, preferably in a chemical handling or laboratory environmentBachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Chemistry, or a related scientific field (preferred)OSHA 30-hour certification required; CSP or CIH certification strongly preferredStrong understanding of safety programs within regulated or chemical environmentsProficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePointAbility to develop and deliver training using multiple media formatsStrong organizational, communication, and observational skillsAbility to work independently and maintain a consistent onsite presencePhysical Requirements : Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds; Ability to stand, walk, and perform inspections within laboratory and operational environments.Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin
