Materials Handler
The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Maintenance Operations Unit exists to install, operate, maintain and repair complex communication and ITS systems for CDOT Statewide. The Intelligent Transportation Systems Office exists to manage CDOT's ITS program, to operate the Colorado Traffic Management Center, to plan for CDOT ITS activities and support contracts, to manage ITS research program.
The ITS Maintenance Operations unit performs preventive, routine, and emergency maintenance on various types of electronics and communications equipment. The unit performs maintenance on communication systems associated with traffic signals, tunnel control systems, PLCs, and ITS assets across the State, while supporting remote hands to the ITS Network and Technology Unit at Data Center and Node Sites across the State.
The ITS Maintenance Operations unit provides the necessary technical expertise to stock parts supporting the daily maintenance and repair of complex communication and ITS systems for CDOT Statewide.
This position currently reports to Golden, but in the calendar year 2026, a brand new warehouse building will be used for the operations of this storeroom. The new facility is located at 7100 Pennsylvania Street, Denver, CO 80229. This position will report to the new location when the facility is ready.
The Materials Handler position will procure ITS warehouse and distribute supplies for maintenance sections statewide pertaining to ITS devices, and other external / internal customers. This position will oversee the day to day operations, evaluate quantities on hand, ship ordered parts to regional staff, coordinate with lead personnel for parts needed to repair devices and close work orders.
Position will evaluate stock levels and stock usage, safety requirements and effectiveness of safety needs and specifications.
Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Schedule pick up or shipping of supplies for supporting customer needs;
- Tailor customer service for effectiveness;
- Ensure replenishment of stock has been completed.
- Plan assignments and control the timeliness, soundness and accuracy of the work of other storeroom employees;
- Responsible for all ITS warehouse activity including the remote warehouse location at the Eisenhower / Johnson Memorial Tunnel.
- Evaluate incoming supply requests (for example accuracy quantity to product relations, if an incorrect material number was utilized, offering a suitable substitute item for the item requested.).
- Fill orders for device repair orders / work orders, prepare for shipping if necessary.
- Maintain pick up schedule for ITS Maintenance and Regional Traffic teams.
- Computer data entry.
- Compile order quantities and processing supply issue documents.
- Research product usage, and customer trends.
- Print catalogs, delete old stock, and maintain stock location information and product.
- Research levels for Store Room related commodities / inventory.
- Verify pricing and availability with vendor for requested commodities (for example, special PPE, ITS device maintenance, vehicle maintenance).
- Make delivery arrangements, and create computer documents.
- Maintain pertinent records (for example invoices, goods issue, goods receipt, and purchase orders.).
- Process purchase, deliveries and payment.
- Process special order non-stock supplies, items not carried through the warehouse (for example, janitorial, vehicle maintenance filter, tires, and road maintenance items.).
- Receive supply orders that come through the ITS stock room.
- Verify shipments against packing lists and purchase orders.
- Identify shipping or pricing discrepancies, through paperwork verification process.
- Notify customers of arrivals if relevant to the urgency of the request.
- Interview salespeople and evaluate product and service and make recommendations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment :
Primarily 6 : 00 am 4 : 30 pm work hours, Monday-Thursday (May be eligible for variation in schedule that meets CDOT's operational needs)May be required overnight travel within the state boundaries, as well as to attend meetings and trainingsRequired to operate CDOT vehiclesMinimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights :
Minimum Qualifications :
At least three years of full-time professional warehouse management experience which included receiving, storing, issuing a wide variety of supplies and equipment. This must have included inventory management.OR
A combination of relevant education and experience equal to at least 3 years.Conditions of Employment :
Must pass a pre-employment screening which may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks.May be required to work different shifts including nights to help maintenance patrols during emergencies and weather related road closures.A current valid driver's license is required for this position as it requires operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position.Preferred Qualifications :
