This role is based in the Digital Endpoints and Patient-Centered Solutions (DEPCS) team, the innovative digital, AI, and tech function within Roche Product Development Data Sciences (PDD). Operating across the Science of Medicines and Operations, DEPCS is responsible for embedding patient-centered and AI-enabled digital solutions into the fabric of clinical research. By integrating data science, measurement science, and digital product thinking, DEPCS delivers scalable and regulatory-ready innovations that enhance trial design, evidence generation, and clinical value of Roche medicines.
The Opportunity
As the Therapeutic Area (TA) Lead for Oncology within the Digital Endpoints and Patient-Centered Solutions (DEPCS) function, you will provide strategic leadership and coordination across digital, AI, clinical imaging, and patient-centered solutions supporting the therapeutic area. You will serve as the primary DEPCS partner to cross-functional stakeholders in Clinical Development, Biostatistics, Data Science, Regulatory, GPS, and pRED, ensuring that the right digital and measurement strategies are embedded in program design and lifecycle decision-making, with priority to late stage development. This role focuses on anticipating needs, rigorously assessing opportunities, and developing and implementing innovative, validated, and scalable solutions that improve evidence generation, align with regulatory expectations, and center the patient experience. You will play a pivotal role in aligning DEPCS functional strategy to TA-level execution and enabling impactful digital-first innovation through partnerships, governance, and cross-functional delivery. You will be accountable for management and delivery of the DEPCS project portfolio for the TA.
Key Responsibilities
- Align digital, AI, imaging, and patient-centered strategies for Oncology with Roche's broader PD-DSA, One Pharma goals, and other enterprise-wide initiatives.
- Champion and integrate the 3Ds Data, Digital / AI, and Design into TA-level decision-making, product development, and clinical delivery.
- Act as a role model for digital health leadership by promoting scientific rigor, practical feasibility assessment, operational excellence, and a learning mindset.
- Ensure clear accountability and cross-functional alignment in the execution of TA-level innovation priorities.
- Partner with senior leaders across Roche Pharma with an enterprise approach, identifying and addressing opportunities to bridge gaps in understanding of how AI and digital solutions can impact development programs, fostering collaboration to drive efficiency and innovation into business as usual.
- Define and implement the end-to-end DEPCS strategy for Oncology, integrating patient-centered solutions, health technology, digital endpoints, imaging algorithms, and other AI / ML capabilities into the drug development lifecycle.
- Translate DEPCS and enterprise priorities into TA-specific roadmaps and investment cases that drive measurable impact.
- Ensure broad alignment of DEPCS digital, AI, imaging, and patient-centered strategies for Oncology within E2E governance frameworks, senior stakeholders in Roche's broader digital ecosystem, and within PD-DSA.
- Contribute the TA perspective to DEPCS and cross-functional governance forums, shaping priorities and ensuring strategic fit.
- Anticipate organizational, scientific, and regulatory trends and guide solution portfolios that enhance development outcomes and future-readiness.
- Represent DEPCS in TA-level governance (e.g., Development Boards), influencing decision-making through validated, patient-relevant digital innovation.
- Serve as the single point of DEPCS accountability for [Therapeutic Area] and act as primary partner to Clinical Development, Biostatistics, Regulatory, GPS, pRED, and gRED.
- Develop deep relationships with cross-functional PDD leaders to enable fluid collaboration, planning, and enablement of the 3Ds (Design, Data, Digital / AI) across PDD within [Therapeutic Area].
- Partner with TA teams to ensure lifecycle strategies are informed by fit-for-purpose digital and measurement solutions.
- Coordinate across internal DEPCS capabilities (e.g., Imaging, PCOR, AI / ML, Data Validation) to assess, design, and deliver impactful, compliant, and scalable innovations.
- Foster external partnerships with technology providers, academic centers, regulators, and patient groups to expand and strengthen DEPCS delivery.
- Represent TA needs in DEPCS and PDD functional forums and ensure that cross-functional planning enables integration into studies and programs.
- Oversee the assessment, development, validation, and implementation of digital endpoints, patient-reported outcome & clinical outcomes assessment tools, imaging solutions, and health technology solutions.
- Ensure clinical and patient relevance of all solutions, including compliance with measurement science principles and regulatory expectations.
- Promote digital-first design and solution reusability, supporting scalable delivery, FAIR principles, and continuous performance tracking.
- Guide the integration of DEPCS technologies into platform trials, decentralized study models, and evidence generation plans.
- Shape the DEPCS approach to productization and digital tool governance, ensuring robust ownership, quality, and lifecycle support.
- Stay up to date with the latest digital / AI advancements and embed cutting-edge solutions into strategic plans and projects.
- Lead and develop a senior team of TA-aligned experts (e.g., Imaging, Digital / PCOR) responsible for delivery of solutions.
- Set clear strategic and operational goals for the team, providing feedback, coaching, and opportunities for scientific leadership.
- Prioritize and resource DEPCS projects with the respective Digital & PCOR TA Leads, TA Digital Business Leads, Imaging TA Leads, the AI / ML Global Lead, the Digital Excellence Lead, and the DEPCS Head.
- Foster a culture of excellence, inclusion, and innovation across matrixed teams, with a focus on cross-functional collaboration and patient-centered impact.
- Partner with DEPCS leadership and People & Culture to recruit, retain, and grow talent across digital science and technical product functions.

Who You Are
You hold an advanced degree (MD or PhD preferred; MPH, MSc, or equivalent) in Medicine, Digital Health, Life Sciences, Measurement Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline.You bring 15+ years of experience in pharmaceutical development, digital innovation, clinical research technology, or quantitative science, including 5+ years in senior leadership roles.You have demonstrated success leading and delivering complex innovation portfolios and embedding digital, AI, or patient-centered strategies into development programs.You have a deep understanding of measurement science, digital health validation, clinical evidence standards, and regulatory requirements for digital solutions.You can partner across Clinical, Regulatory, Commercial, and Data Science functions to drive aligned, TA-specific innovation.You bring a strong track record of matrix leadership, scientific credibility, and engagement with global stakeholders in complex environments.You have experience with productization of digital solutions and lifecycle governance for platform technologies.You are familiar with global regulatory guidance on digital endpoints, PROs, DCTs, and AI / ML use in clinical development.You bring knowledge of imaging modalities and integrated measurement strategies (especially for Neuroscience, Oncology, Ophthalmology, etc.).You demonstrate external visibility through publications, conference participation, or consortia leadership in the digital health or patient-centered research domains.You bring international experience or experience operating across geographies and cultures.You are willing to travel (estimated 20%) Relocation benefits are not available for this posting.Compensation and Benefits
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $245,900 - $456,700. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
