The Faculty Development Council (FDC) is now accepting proposals for theOne-Year Scholarly and Creative Activities Release for 2026-2027.
OBJECTIVE
This special release is designed to support one faculty member by awarding them a one-year release from teaching and service at full salary to complete a major scholarly or creative project. The University may offer one or two such releases per year.
A major scholarly or creative project may have one or more of the following characteristics :
This release aims to support endeavors in which free time is more important than funding. Although this leave was designed to help faculty in the arts and humanities who do not benefit as commonly from research funding faculty in all disciplines are invited to apply provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
ELIGIBILITY
To apply for this special one-year release a faculty member must be eligible to apply for a standard sabbatical or development leave as stipulated in the Faculty Manual. (Faculty are encouraged to confirm their eligibility with the Office of Faculty Affairs prior to applying.) Faculty who are only eligible for a sabbatical at 80% salary may apply for this special release; however preference will generally be given to applicants who are eligible for a sabbatical or development leave at full pay. Faculty may apply for this special release in the same awards cycle in which they apply for a standard sabbatical or research leave but they must submit separate applications for each type of release (i.e. one application for the special one-year release and one application for the standard sabbatical or development leave).
